April 12, 2023 Update - Working Towards 100% Zero Discharge System

Carter has wanted to be zero discharge for a long time and has now started the process with the installation of a pump in a bucket installed under the sink.  He then piped the sinks into the bucket which then pumps out to the water line going up to the french drain on the property which he set up for the shower sump water.  It works great.  But, when we are cruising, the water will be directed  to drain into the black water tank to be pumped out at a proper pump out station.  That project has not been started yet but it will be pretty cool to not be contributing to the pollution in this canal.

Prepping the area for the drain hose.  This bilge area will house the huge bladder tank that will hold the galley waste until time to pump out with black water.

Carter hates cutting new holes in his boat but... this new system required it.

Initially Carter intended to use this black pliable pipe but ended up using regular PVC.

This picture does show the placement of the piping.

The pump in a bucket with piping going directly to outboard drainage.
(Shows better in next picture.)

Changing the black pipe to PVC.

A filter is installed just inside the mechanical room just beside the water heater.  From here, the water will continue either into the bladder tank to wait for black water pump out, or directly to hose going outside, either directly to water (only if in large salt water setting) or while at the property, up the hill draining into the french drain.

Here is the bladder tank but has not been connected to the system yet.

Piping from shower sump connected to the out take hose which now will either go to the black water tank (that project has not been started yet) or go directly outside up the hill to french drain or into  only if in salt water.

At the galley sink...all piping has been replaced.  No more leaks.

And all the new piping connecting sink to the bucket pump.

Project complete for this session.  Connecting to the black water tank will happen at a later time.

We are not totally 100% zero discharge yet as the bathroom sink is the only drain left that only drains directly outside but it is only hand washing and teeth brushing.

This system is definitely a huge step in the direction of Zero Discharge!!
